Free, and not the sad kind
Otto Free is one connected Gmail or Outlook account with core mail, calendar and tasks, plus an AI allowance. Not a trial. Not a countdown. Not a sorting layer that nags you to upgrade before it will show you a message.
You get the keyboard layer too: J and K to move, Enter to open, E to archive, S to star, R to reply, G then I for the inbox, and ⌘/ for the cheat sheet when you lose one. Search works like Gmail search when you know the filter, and like a question when you do not.
The speed underneath it is a mechanism rather than a claim. New mail is pushed to Otto by Gmail and Outlook rather than polled, so it appears as it arrives. Folder switches come off Otto’s up-to-date inbox list instead of a fresh round trip. Archive, snooze and send respond as you press them.
Then there is the assistant. Ask it to draft a reply, propose a meeting or capture a follow-up, and it prepares a review card for ordinary sends, deletes and bulk changes. Optional standing rules have separate setup and limits. Try the ordinary review flow on a real thread today.
Where the money is
The AI allowance is real and it is limited. If you want to run most of your week through the assistant, that is what Plus at $6.99 a month and Pro at $19.99 are for, along with extra connected accounts and stronger models.
What stays free is the part you use every hour: reading, sending, sorting, your calendar, your tasks. Core mail is not the hostage.
Against a paid subscription
Superhuman's plans page lists Free, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans, with amounts that vary by region. As last reviewed on 9 October 2026, Mail is on the paid Business and Enterprise plans, and the Free plan covers other products in the suite, not Mail. It is a well-made product with a native Windows app, which Otto does not have, and if that is your machine this is an easy decision the other way.
For everyone else the comparison is simple: the same calm, fast inbox, plus a calendar and a task list, plus an assistant, for nothing while you decide.
