Sunsama and Otto Mail both want you to have a calmer day, by different routes. Sunsama is a daily planner: each morning it walks you through choosing what fits in the day, and it pulls tasks from other tools into one list. Otto is a mail app with a calendar and tasks, on your existing Gmail or Outlook account. Its assistant drafts and books, and files things away, always for your approval.

Otto is ours, so weigh our side. If the planning ritual is what you value, Sunsama does that better. If you're searching for a Sunsama alternative that also handles email, that's Otto.

Where Sunsama is stronger

Sunsama's homepage describes guided planning and an end-of-day shutdown, plus focus timers and time-spent analytics. It lists integrations with Todoist, Asana, ClickUp, Linear, Jira, Notion, Slack and more, so tasks from many tools collect in one list. Otto's tasks live in Google Tasks or Microsoft To Do for the selected account, and Otto doesn't have a daily planning ritual.

Where Otto fits

Sunsama lets you drag emails into your task list to deal with later. Otto goes further into the mail itself. You work the inbox there (read, reply, sort, search), and the assistant prepares the reply or proposes a meeting on your Google or Outlook calendar. Every send comes back as a card for you to approve, and so does every booking or change. See how Otto's assistant works.
