Notes — a notebook in your inbox

A fast, private notebook that lives right in the rail — no second app, no provider account. Notes are Otto-native: they sync across your devices instantly and never leave for Google or Outlook.

Pick the format that fits the thought: a rich text note, a Markdown note, or a freehand drawing. Pin the ones you reach for, color them like sticky notes, and find anything with full-text search.

Connect ideas with [[links]] — type [[ to reference another note, and see everything that points back to it. Organize with inline #tags, then filter the grid by tag.

Drawings give you pen, pencil, brush, highlighter and eraser, with adjustable size, undo and redo, and a dot grid to draw against — on an infinite canvas you can pan in any direction (drag with the hand tool, or two fingers on touch) and zoom (pinch, scroll, or the on-screen controls), with a fit button to frame your work. Only what you draw is saved — never the empty space. Everything autosaves as you draw.

Otto can draw too: ask it to make an icon, logo, or diagram and it sketches one as crisp vector art you can mark up; ask it to generate a picture for richer art (Pro); or ask what's in a drawing and it reads the image back to you and transcribes any text.

Keep the grid tidy: right-click any note (or tap its ⋮ menu) to pin, archive, or act on it. Hover a note — or long-press on touch — to select, then run bulk pin, archive, or trash on everything at once. Deleted notes go to Trash, where you can restore them or delete forever; archived notes tuck into the Archive. Reach both from the ⋮ menu in the header.

Otto works on your notes too: select text for an inline rewrite, run Summarize, Extract action items (which become tasks), and Review facts to remember on a whole note (choose the statements before saving), or Ask Otto about any note straight from its menu. On Pro, smart search finds notes by meaning, not just keywords — and Otto can read, edit, archive, trash or restore notes from chat ("make a note…", "find my note about…", "restore that note I deleted").

Keyboard: in the list, N new note, D drawing, M Markdown, / search; in a note, ⌘/Ctrl S saves and Esc closes; while drawing, ⌘/Ctrl Z and ⇧⌘Z undo and redo.

Notes save as you type, at least every few seconds, and a status in the header shows when they're saved. A note holds about 24 pages. Export any note as Markdown, HTML or PDF (drawings as an image) from its ⋮ menu.

Write a note together, live, with anyone you invite (Edit together), or share a copy by email or a read-only link (Sharing). Plus and Pro can paste images straight in (Images in notes), and every note keeps earlier versions and a comment thread (History and comments).

Free includes the full notebook (capped at a handful); Plus lifts the limit, adds images and more AI, Pro adds semantic "smart search" that finds notes by meaning, and Team shares notebooks across your org.
